Swatch the Throne

A living room with a regal feel and fuzzy throne.

I wanted to make a comfy reading nook that was also a bit fancy. The chair was the central inspiration, feeling both homey and imperial. To be honest, I don’t think my drawing quite does the throne-like quality justice. The walls and rug came next. I wanted to pair the neutral tone of the chair with some uplifting colors and textures. It was also tough to capture the different layers of the rug in my drawing. It’s worth a closer look! From there, I filled in with a lot of gold tones to class up the place.

But wait… there’s moulding. Is moulding really in a ho-hum regular-person space? Yes. It turns out, it is highly DIY-able. When I finally work up to interior design DIY projects, this will almost definitely be what I want to do first. Here is a thorough DIY write-up from Lemon Thistle. I also found Build and Batten from Lowe’s that seems to simplify the process quite a bit if you’re feeling like a shortcut.
